Passenger’s wife says missing MH370 aircraft nothing to do with pilot
PETALING JAYA: The wife of one of the passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 says she launched a legal suit against US-based aircraft maker Boeing as she believed the incident was related to a fault with the plane.
Australian Danica Weeks was reported by the ABC news network yesterday as saying that it could not have happened due to a suicide bid, as has been speculated by certain quarters who claimed that it might have been the work of pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah.
“I’ve always believed the fault was with the plane, which is why I put a court case out against Boeing in the US — to prove that the Boeing 777s that are still flying are safe,” she was quoted as saying in ABC’s news portal.
“If you look back at suicidal plots, it doesn’t normally happen seven hours into a flight — it would happen in the beginning,” she added.
Weeks was recorded to have filed the suit against Boeing with four other plaintiffs at the district court of the District of Columbia in the US, based on alleged personal injury, airplane product liability and torts, on June 15, 2016.
She was quoted as saying that she was still waiting for a response from Boeing…
The Boeing 777-200ER had disappeared en route to Beijing from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport with 227 passengers, including Weeks’ husband Paul Weeks, and 12 crew on board on March 8, 2014.

KUALA LUMPUR: The extended family of Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, agree with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) Chief Martin Dolan that the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 should continue. Another 15,000 sq km remain to be searched in the 7th Arc in the southern Indian Ocean, off southeast Australia. So far, there has been no sign of the plane in the 120,000 sq km search area.
All indications, at this point in time, are that the plane may never be found in the current search location by the time it’s completed.
“From my personal opinion, Australia is within its rights to call off the search,” Sakinab Shah, the sister of Captain Zaharie, told ABC. “It’s Malaysia’s responsibility, this is Malaysian MH370, our national carrier, once our pride and joy.”
She added that her brother was deeply missed. “There’s nobody in this world that can replace him. He was a very kind fellow, very caring. He made time for everybody. He was generous-hearted.”

MH370 pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah deliberately killed himself and 227 passengers on board the doomed flight by turning off the oxygen supply, an airline boss has claimed.
Ewan Wilson, the former chief executive of Kiwi International Airlines, will tell aviation experts in Birmingham later today (15 September) about his belief that Shah planned the tragedy as part of an “ultimate post-mortem triumph”.

Wilson however believes Shah was responsible for the flight’s tragedy. He thinks he purposedly shut his co-pilot, Fariq Hamid, out of the cockpit so he could shut all communication down before changing the flight path.
He claims Shah then depressurised the plane so the cabin crew and passengers’ oxygen would run out – causing them to die from hypoxia.
In his book, Goodnight 370, Wilson explores five previous “suicide” flights that claimed the lives of 422 passengers and crew in the last 30 years:
29 November, 2013: Mozambican Flight TM 470: 33 killed – co-pilot was in the toilet at the time. Investigations revealed the pilot was suffering from depression due to marital problems.
31 October, 1999: Egypt Air Flight 990: 217 killed – crash believed to be intentional after co-pilot Gameel Al-Batouti had been reprimanded for sexual misconduct. The executive who told him he would not be allowed to fly US routes again was on the flight.
19 December, 1997: SilkAir Flight 185: 104 killed – Captain Tsu Wai Ming may have committed suicide by switching off both flight recorders and intentionally putting the plane into a dive.
21 August, 1994: Royal Air Maroc Flight 630: 44 killed – Pilot Younes Khayat believed to have deliberately crashed the plane by directing it into mountains.
9 February, 1982: Japan Airlines Flight 350: 24 killed – Captain Deiji Katagiri switched two of the engines into reverse on descent before crash landing the plane into water. He escaped in a rescue boat and was later found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Cops rubbish ‘pilot responsible’ for MH370 report
The Malaysian police have expressed regret over the irresponsible reporting by the Sunday Times in the United Kingdom that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was responsible for the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370 while enroute to Beijing, China on March 8.
Inspector-General of Police secretariat assistant head (corporate communications) ACP Asmawati Ahmad described the report as irresponsible and baseless.
“The Sunday Times, United Kingdom had contacted PDRM to get the latest development on the mystery of the missing MH370 on June 19 and 20.
“We replied that investigation was still ongoing, not conclusive and encompassed all aspects of investigation. PDRM did not make a statement that Captain Zaharie was the main suspect in the incident,” she said in a statement.

SOME consider him the prime suspect behind aviation’s greatest mystery, but the family of MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah have never wavered in their belief in him.
Today marks 100 days since MH370 disappeared with 239 aboard, and in that time Zaharie has been linked to a mystery “other woman” and even accused of using his at home flight simulator to plot a plane crash in an act of domestic terrorism to support controversial Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
But none of this is true, say his family in an exclusive interview, and there are several good reasons why.
“There are two reasons for Arie to still be alive. This is his best friend, this grandson of his,” says Zaharie’s brother in law, Asuad Khan, pointing to a photograph of five-year-old Ahmad Naufal Khan. “He was devoted to the little boy.”
“And this is the other reason,” he says, showing a photograph of Capt Zaharie and his daughter Aishah.
“That’s the reasons he would want to continue living.”

MH370 pilot did not believe in life insurance, says family
PETALING JAYA: The relatives of missing Flight MH370’s pilot Capt Zaharie Ahmad Shah have broken their silence to tick off those who have put forward pilot suicide as a possible reason for the plane’s disappearance.
With all sorts of speculations swirling around about a purported suicide designed to collect a big insurance payout, the family is also upset that MAS has not spoken for him or protected him.
Asuad Khan, the brother-in-law of Capt Zaharie, reiterated that the experienced aviator did not even believe in having a life insurance policy.
“Not only did he not have a life insurance policy, he and his family do not have medical insurance coverage. Any insurance payout will only be from MAS,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of his sister Faizah Khan, Asuad said the inaccurate speculation had tarnished Capt Zaharie’s image.
“Arie had told Faizah that when he retired from MAS, any health problems would be dealt with at government hospitals and that they had to live within their means.
“He is a man with a sense of humour. ‘We will be retired so we will have all the time in the world to wait at the hospital,’ he had told his wife,” said Asuad.
“His work is his passion and life has been good to him and his family, so why would he want to commit suicide as well as take the lives of 238 people along with him?”

PETALING JAYA: The family of Capt Zaharie Ahmad Shah, pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 plane, have defended his reputation in an episode of Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) Four Corners program.
Capt Zaharie’s brother-in-law, Asuad Khan, said the 53-year-old pilot was a “happy, generous and kind man” who fell victim to false rumours and inaccurate reporting.
Asuad, who spoke on behalf of Capt Zaharie’s wife, Faizah Khan, also said claims of the captain committing suicide for life insurance are untrue.
“If you are talking about life insurance he didn’t have one. Trust me, check. He didn’t have one. He didn’t believe in it so why would he want to (commit) suicide?” he said.
“Because if you say that he wanted to (commit) suicide in the Indian Ocean, I say prove it. He was not suicidal,” he added, citing Capt Zaharie’s good life, wealth and love for his daughter as deterrents against taking his own life.
Asuad also dismissed claims that the captain could have been a rogue pilot on a suicide mission, and claimed the authorities may be using Capt Zaharie as a scapegoat.

The family of the captain of missing flight MH370 is frustrated over the suspicion and negative press surrounding the pilot’s motives and character, a relative told The Wall Street Journal yesterday.
The business journal said the relative, who’s an immediate family member, dismissed theories in media that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah committed suicide, was overwrought by marital problems or had some financial motive, such as life-insurance payment, to act irresponsibly.

“He was in his right mind, a good person. If he wanted to commit suicide, why would he take the plane all the way out into the Indian Ocean?” he was quoted as saying.

KOTA BARU: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakarregrets that there are still certain parties who continue to speculate the fate of Flight MH370 even to the point of tarnishing the reputation of Capt Zaharie Ahmad Shah’s family.

MH370 search: Government releases transcript, says nothing ‘abnormal’
PETALING JAYA: The full transcript of communications between Flight MH370 and the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control has been released, revealing nothing ‘abnormal’.
Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein said in a statement on Tuesday that the transcript had been shared with the families of passengers.
“There is no indication of anything abnormal in the transcript,” said Hishammuddin.
“The transcript was initially held as part of the police investigation,” he said.
Hishammuddin said that previously, MAS had stated initial investigations indicated the voice which signed off was that of the co-pilot.
“The police are working to confirm this belief, and forensic examination of the actual recording is ongoing,” Hishammuddin added.

SHAH ALAM: Malaysian Pilots Association president Captain Abdul Manan Mansor today denied a report by Daily Mail online allegedly quoting him saying that the missing MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was “psychologically unstable” after a marriage break up.
Abdul Manan not only denied claiming Zaharie was mentally unstable, he also clarified that he has never spoken to Daily Mail“I didn’t speak to Daily Mail, I didn’t say that Zaharie was psychologically unstable.

THE daughter of MH370 pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah has broken her silence to hit out at baseless accusations against her father.

Aishah Zaharie, along with her brother Ahmad Idris Zaharie, have used a Facebook page set up in support of their father to express their disgust at media reports about him.
They say the latest story is utter rubbish, pushing human patience to the limit and Aishah has suggested that one UK paper should consider making movies because they are so good at making up scripts.
Their comments, along with calls for them to take legal action, follow a report in the UK Daily Mail which purported to know what the family has told police investigators in Kuala Lumpur.
Police have joined the protest, saying the story is unsubstantiated and from unreliable sources.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet is believed to be solely responsible for the flight being taken hundreds of miles off course and there is no evidence of a mechanical failure or hijacking by a passenger, according to an law enforcement official involved in the investigation.
A high-ranking officer attached to a special investigative branch of the Malaysia police force in Kuala Lumpur told USA TODAY on Wednesday that investigators are pressing relatives of the pilot, Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah, for information on his behavior leading up to the March 8 flight.
The official could not speak on the record because he is not authorized to talk publicly on the investigation.
The investigator, who has been on the case since the beginning, told USA TODAY police believe the pilot “deliberately” redirected the plane. He said of those on board the flight, only the captain possessed the experience and expertise to fly the plane.
The official said investigators have found no connection between Zaharie, 53, and any militant groups, and the 27-year-old co-pilot on the flight did not have the experience to manage such a diversion, they believe.
Zaharie was a firm supporter of the opposition party to the current ruling regime and his flight left the day that the party’s leader, Anwar Ibrahim, was sentenced to five years in prison on sex crimes his supporters say are fraudulent. Zaharie was in the courtroom when the verdict was announced.

A former Malaysia Airlines (MAS) stalwart has defended the pilots of lost flight MH370, describing them as good Muslims.
Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, who was managing director and chief executive officer of MAS for 10 years, told CNN he knew Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah since his days as a cadet pilot.
The 80-year-old Aziz told CNN that he personally knew Zaharie, describing him as an excellent pilot and a gentleman.
“I think that they (the media) are going the wrong way, pointing the finger at him (Zaharie),” he said.
Asked about Fariq, Aziz said he knew his father, the Selangor Public Works Department deputy director Abdul Hamid Mat Daud.
“His father knew the Quran by heart, and he (Fariq) also knew the Quran by heart,” Abdul Aziz said.

Report: FBI turn up zilch in simulator probe
12.55pm: FBI analysts examining MH370’s pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah’s flight simulator have yet to find any clues that might shed light on the aircraft’s disappearance, the Wall Street Journal reports.

youngest son of the pilot of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has come out to deny allegations that his father Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah (pic) had hijacked the plane and deliberately crashed it into the Indian Ocean.
Ahmad Seth, the 26-year-old youngest son of the pilot, said he was aware of the speculation surrounding his father and the plane’s disappearance.
“I’ve read everything online. But I’ve ignored all the speculation. I know my father better,” he was quoted as saying in The New Straits Times today.
“We may not be as close as he travels so much. But I understand him.”

Meanwhile, Ahmad Seth said he had expected authorities to declare that the plane had crashed but will only believe it if there was physical proof.
This comes after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced on Monday – after 17 days of search – that based on new satellite data, the missing aircraft had ended its journey in the Indian Ocean without any survivors.
“I will believe it (that there are no survivors) when I see the proof in front of my eyes,” said Ahmad Seth.

First came the statement by officials Sunday that the Boeing 777’s change of course was programmed into its computers after, and not before, the last voice message from the cockpit was received. It further quoted a source as saying: “Faizah has been spoken to gently by officers but she has not been questioned in detail to establish her husband’s behaviour and state of mind in the days leading to the incident.”
“This is partly for cultural reasons. It is not considered appropriate in Malaysia to subject people in situations of terrible bereavement to the stress of intensive questioning.”
The daily said that the softly-softly approach has been challenged by the team of FBI agents working with Malaysian police.
They have pointed out that she may hold “vital clues and information” to Zaharie’s mental state.
“The whole world is looking for this missing plane and the person who arguably knows most about the state of mind of the man who captained the plane is being left alone,” said a source close to the FBI team.
“If we want to eliminate the chief pilot from the inquiry, we must interview her in detail to find out what his state of mind was.”

“These reports originate from unnamed and unverified sources and are merely speculations,” she said in short SMS reply.
Asmawati also said that foreign news agencies had no exclusive rights to the details of the ongoing investigations and revealed that the police chief has never issued any public statement that placed the missing MH370 under any act of terrorism.
“The IGP never said such a thing at any press conferences. The investigation is still ongoing,” Asmawati added.

Missing MH370: Cops refute Capt Zaharie’s mystery call report
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have refuted claims by a foreign tabloid that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah received a call from a phone number registered with a dubious identity just before he flew Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 on March 8.
Bukit Aman Assistant chief of the Inspector-General of Police secretariat Asst Comm Datin Asmawati Ahmad said the foreign tabloid had no exclusive rights to the details of the investigations.
“The Inspector-General of Police has never issued any public statement that categorically place the MH370 investigation under an act of terrorism.
“Please be advised that the Royal Malaysia Police take no responsibility over the dissemination of such information, which originates from unnamed and unverified sources,” she said, adding that the news in the tabloid was mere speculation.

ACCUSATIONS AIMED AT THE PILOT: THEY FALL BY THE WAYSIDE ONE BY ONE…
The flight simulator has been one of the main focuses of investigators as they worked to solve the mystery of the plane’s disappearance.
The investigators made certain that everyone knew about the pilot’s flight stimulator and how suspicious that is.
1 He’s got a flight simulator at home! That’s suspicious, isn’t it?
They took it away after making a BIG SHOW of raiding his home, making sure the Press was there to take photos and videos.
2 When they found nothing on it, they said, “Everything’s been erased! Now, why do that unless..???”
Investigators became suspicious after they discovered that Zaharie, 53, had deleted logs on a computer linked to the simulator on February 3, almost five weeks before the Boeing 777 with 239 people on board disappeared from the radar during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar also said that initial investigations found that the data log from the simulator was believed to have been deleted on February 3.
3 They asked forensic experts to examine it, heightening expectations that it was all VERY suspicious.They seemed to be ‘promising’ results that would point to the shady activities of a man who is highly respected.
It was reported that the computer hard drive was sent to FBI experts in the US for further scrutiny as investigators look into the possibility that the plane was hijacked.
4 Finally, they admit: No, nothing there at all that supports their allegations.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said someone fed information to the Daily Mail, linking him to the pilot of missing jetliner MH370.
Speaking at the launch of the Reformasi 2.0 movement at the Kajang Stadium last night, the opposition leader said the story in the British tabloid was the work of certain quarters who wanted to tarnish his image.
“Who gave information to Daily Mail alleging he was my fanatical political supporter?
“Then Umno and the Barisan Nasional media started questioning this Anwar-Zaharie connection, but all I can say is don’t be cruel to him and his family, he is just a professional pilot,” he said to cheers at the packed stadium.

A transcript of conversations between the co-pilot and the control tower, and other air traffic controllers, runs from the time the Boeing 777 was taxiing to its last known position thousands of feet above the South China Sea.
It includes exchanges from a point at which investigators believe the plane had already been sabotaged, as well as the last words of Fariq Abdul Hamid, 27, the co-pilot: “All right, good night.”
Analysts said the sequence of messages appeared “perfectly routine”. However two features, they said, stood out as potentially odd.
The first was a message from the cockpit at 1.07am, saying the plane was flying at 35,000ft. This was unnecessary as it repeated a message delivered six minutes earlier.
But it occurred at a crucial moment: it was at 1.07am that the plane’s Acars signalling device sent its last message before being disabled some time in the next 30 minutes, apparently deliberately. A separate transponder was disabled at 1.21am but investigators believe the Acars was shut down before Hamid’s final, 1.19am farewell.
The other odd feature, one reason for suspicions that the plane’s disappearance was no accident, was that its loss of communication and subsequent sharp turn west occurred at the handover from air traffic controllers in Kuala Lumpur to those in Ho Chi Minh City.
“If I was going to steal the aeroplane, that would be the point I would do it,” said Stephen Buzdygan, a former British Airways pilot who flew 777s.
“There might be a bit of dead space between the air traffic controllers … It was the only time during the flight they would maybe not have been able to be seen from the ground.”

Pilot’s friends rally to his defence
PETALING JAYA: Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah is not capable of violence, said a family friend of the missing pilot.
Pakistan national Nadiya Malik (not her real name), who first met Zaharie when she was a child, said she had anticipated the Western media would use his religion and heritage against him.

Peter Chong said he had never seen his friend Zaharie lose his temper.
“I have known him for two years and never seen him angry once. He is pleasant, witty, and loves children. In fact, we were supposed to organise a charity event for children together,” he said.

The pilot of the missing Malaysian Airlines plane made a mystery phone call just minutes before flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur, it emerged last night.
Investigators are now urgently trying to work out who Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah spoke to in the cockpit before the plane took off on March 8.
There is a hope that the phone call could hold the answer to the plane’s mysterious disappearance.

Zaharie Ahmad Shah supported Anwar Ibrahim. That’s common sense, not zealotry.
There is an axiom in Malaysian politics: Eventually everything comes back to Anwar Ibrahim. So, the longer that the fumbling and inept investigation into the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has gone on, the more certain it became that it would somehow boomerang to the leader of the country’s democratic opposition.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Najib Razak went before the cameras to declare that officials believe the plane was deliberately diverted and flown in an unknown direction somewhere along a wide arc from Kazakhstan to deep into the Indian Ocean. Now that the search for the Boeing 777 has turned into a criminal investigation, the authorities are taking a close look at the flight’s chief pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, and its first officer, Fariq Abdul Hamid.
They quickly learned—as no doubt all of Shah’s friends knew—that the pilot was a strong supporter of Anwar Ibrahim’s People’s Justice Party. American intelligence officials are leaning towards the theory that “those in the cockpit” – the pilots of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 – were responsible for the disappearance of the commercial jetliner, an American official with direct knowledge of the latest developments told CNN yesterday.
The revelation comes in the heels that Malaysian authorities searched the home of the lead pilot – Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah – on the same day that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said at a briefing yesterday the plane veered off course and attributed it to deliberate action taken by someone onboard the Boeing 777-200ER.
The CNN report said the Malaysian government had been looking for a reason to search the home of the pilot and the co-pilot for several days.
However, it said, it was only in the last 24 to 36 hours when radar and satellite data came to light that authorities believed they had sufficient reason to search the homes of Zaharie, 53, and co-pilot, Fariq Abdul

The report further stated that the raid on Zaharie’s home appeared to be “stage-managed” as a display of intent after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said at a specially called press conference yesterday that the focus of the investigation was now on “crew and passengers” as a result of the latest leads.
Stopping short of calling it a hijacking, Najib said yesterday that flight MH370′s unusual deviation westwards was “consistent with deliberate action by someone on the plane”.

With the authorities settling on what amounts to air piracy, the Daily Mail is reporting a theory that the pilot of MH370 may have hijacked the plane as a political protest against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s latest sodomy conviction.
The British tabloid revealed that hours before he took command of the Boeing 777-200ER (9M-MRO) bound for Beijing last Saturday, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah had gone to court on March 7 for the trial and sentencing of Anwar in the sodomy case.

The newspaper said police sources confirmed that the 53-year-old captain was a vocal political activist, and were probing into the probability that he would have been profoundly upset by the court ruling.
Yesterday, police searched the veteran pilot’s home in Shah Alam, where he keeps a home-made flight simulator.
The Daily Mail added, however, that investigators had already spent much of last week examining two laptops removed from Zaharie’s home, where one of it is believed to contain data from the simulator.

According to Zaharie’s co-workers, he was a social activist with fervent support for Anwar and with strong political beliefs, with one colleague saying that the veteran pilot was obsessed with politics.

Investigators told the British newspaper that they were looking into the theory that Zaharie’s political views may have been a factor to consider in the controversy surrounding the missing plane with 239 people onboard.
“There are huge sensitivities surrounding this but we cannot afford not to pursue any angle brought to our attention,” Daily Mail reported, quoting investigators.

There is a scenario in which an electrical fault causing smoke in the avionics bay would cause the aircraft to automatically open the MEC cooling override valve to ventilate smoke, using cabin air pressure to push out the smoke. If that electrical fault then caused failure of a major electrical relay, a system called RLMS would shut down communications and all unnecessary power use to conserve emergency electrical power. If then the pilots turned around but the electrical failure prevented the valve from closing then the pilots and everybody aboard would have become hypoxic.
