I don’t know if this anti-hysteria kit works but if the inventors have tested it and say that it does, I would tend to believe them.
Some people see supernatural entities, others don’t. The former has a capacity to notice the supernatural, the latter may not. It’s a fact of life that I accept.

Mass hysteria — other names include collective hysteria, group hysteria, or collective obsessional behavior — in sociology and psychology refers to collective delusions of threats to society that spread rapidly through rumors and fear. In medicine the term is used to describe the spontaneous manifestation of the same or similar hysterical physical symptoms by more than one person.
Mass hysteria occurred in Malaysia from the 1970s to the 1980s. It affected school-age girls and young women working in factories. The locals have explained this outbreak as “spirits” having possessed the girls and young women.

After furore, UMP claims anti-hysteria kit has ‘proven track record’
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has justified its RM8,750 anti-hysteria kit that supposedly wards off “evil spirits”, claiming that experiments on 50 cases showed its efficacy.
The public university’s Islamic centre and human development director Dr Mahayuddin Ismail told local daily News Straits Times (NST) that the kit — which comprises everyday items like chopsticks, salt, lime, vinegar, pepper spray, and formic acid — was proven to be able to cure hysteria sufferers.
“It has a proven track record, so people should not jump to conclusions or call for a ban,” Mahayuddin was quoted saying in the NST report today.
“We are not saying that it is fool-proof but it has shown it can provide relief to hysteria patients,” added Mahayuddin, who led the research on hysteria and possession for the development of the kit that took three years to produce.
Mahayuddin said the kit has been commonly used at schools in Kedah to help students that suffer hysteria due to stress.
“We met the teachers, who said the students exhibited extraordinary strength when they became hysterical. Using items like chopsticks, lime, vinegar and formic acid, we solved the problem,” he said.
While urging the public to stop being sceptical on the kit as it allegedly helps address hysteria, Mahayuddin said it was also catered to the multiracial crowd.
“It is syariah-compliant and free from deviant elements. We can provide our expertise to help the person recover,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — A clinical psychologist has questioned the application of a so-called “anti-hysteria kit” sold by a local university for RM8,750, asking if its claimed Islamic elements will allow it to work on people of all faiths.
Vizla Kumaresan said this and other questions about the kit marketed by Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) needed answering, particularly as hysteria was not a condition unique to Muslims.
“The fact is if you are counting it as Islamic, what about non-Muslims… does it work for them? Would this RM 8,750 kit be applicable to non-Muslims? If it doesn’t, what is the rationale for that?
“Are they going to say hysterical reactions among Muslims are different from non-Muslims?” asked the consultant clinical psychologist from the MindWorks Psychology and Counselling Centre.

Barring superstition, Perak Mufti gives nod for anti-hysteria kit
KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 — Perak Mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria has endorsed a recently launched anti-hysteria kit for the purpose of healing, provided that it is not steeped in superstition.
He told Harian Metro that any effort at healing can be equated to modern medicine such as injections to treat illnesses.
“We take injections just like other religious communities because it is for health and does not go against Islamic teachings,” he said in the Malay daily’s report.
“Hence, if this kit is guided by the Quran and hadiths then there is nothing wrong with it so long as there is no witchcraft that leans towards idolatry and superstition,” the religious leader added.

KUALA LUMPUR: Treating hysterical attacks with the use of an anti-hysteria kit “to drive out evil spirits” is confusing society, according to the Malaysian Psychiatric Association (MPA).
MPA president, Professor Dr Nor Zuraida Zainal said managing hysteria attacks without medical psychiatric treatment and general medicine could endanger patients and the community.
“Wide press coverage in the past few days on the availability of anti-hysteria treatment, which is out of medical and mental health context is very worrying,” she said in a statement Saturday.
Dr Nor Zuraida said that for 150 years, doctors and researchers sought to understand the phenomenon of hysteria and had introduced modern and scientifically proven treatments to treat the attacks.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 ― A public university is selling an anti-hysteria kit comprising everyday items like chopsticks, salt, lime, vinegar, pepper spray, and formic acid for a whopping RM8,750 that it claims can ward off “evil spirits”.
Several local Malay dailies reported today Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) as saying that the kit, which took three years to produce, was created to address hysteria afflicting young students, typically a condition of exaggerated or uncontrollable emotions.
“In the Quran and the hadith, it has been stated that these spirits are unable to tolerate salty, sour and spicy items,” UMP vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim was quoted saying in BeritaHarian, listing salt, lime, vinegar and black pepper as examples.
Daing said that the chopsticks will be used to “press down” the fingers of hysteria victims, whereas the formic acid will function like hot water to be poured around at spots where the spirits lurk.
At a press conference to launch the product at the Education Ministry’s office in Putrajaya yesterday, Daing reportedly told a press conference that three of the institution’s researchers, as well as one Islamic medicine expert from the Manarah Islamic Treatment Centre, were roped in for the project with test runs already completed at 11 schools.
“The items in the kit have long been used for treatment purposes. We just gave it a little edge to make it easier,” Daing said, adding that the product is also syariah compliant and free from any deviant elements.
The RM 8,750 pricing for the kit includes training for two on its usage, expert treatment services should there be no improvement in one’s condition, further treatment for chronic cases, three refills for items in the kit, a ceramah session, risk management costs and online consultation services.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 — The Universiti Malaysia Pahang researchers behind a RM9,000 exorcism kit should be put up for the Nobel Prize for Physics, Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari said in apparent jest.
Questioning the priorities of Malaysian education following reports about the development of such a kit, the DAP lawmaker pointed out that funds were being poured into researching how to exorcise “evil spirits and supernatural beings” when these could have been put to more pressing use.
He then highlighted the case of the Sabah school without walls, schools without water or power supply as well as continued grouses among teachers over administrative burdens and computer applications that remain unresolved.
“However, when the country’s institutions of learning are still struggling with basic challenges such as infrastructure problems, shortages in teaching manpower and declining educational quality, our intellectuals seem engrossed in diverting research and pre-commercialisation grants to ‘exorcism’ efforts,” he said in a statement today.
He then expressed desire to learn the methodology of the reported exorcism kit, before pointedly saying that the researchers should be nominated for the Nobel Prize for Physics if they really have proven the existence of and interacted with life from other dimensions.
“But if their claims are not true, then for the sake of Islam and the reputation of our education system, I beseech the university administrators to review and adjust their priorities,” he said.

Mass hysteria in two schools
ABOUT 70 female students went into hysterical fits during class at SMK Seri Setia in Kuching on Monday, causing the school to close for six days, Harian Metro reported.
Natasha Mohd Alifa, 14, said she scratched her left arm with a piece of glass during the episode.
“I didn’t realise what happened and I felt no pain,” she said.
Another victim, Akilah Mansur, 17, claimed she saw a long-haired figure emerge from the body of her friend, who was being treated by an ustaz.
“I didn’t expect to faint upon seeing the creature,” she said.
“I was told that I was thrashing about for 30 minutes before I was calmed down with Quranic verses.”

The daily also reported another case of mass hysteria at the SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort, Johor, where 50 female students were affected. That school had to close for a day.
Apparently, prior to the incident, a teacher had seen “black figures” in the school canteen.
Some time later, 10 students began screaming and thrashing about, and were taken to the surau.
However, things took a turn for the worse when more students became affected, forcing the school to call in an Islamic medical practitioner to heal them.

Why mass hysteria only happens to malay girls in Malaysia?

Here is one of those weird Malaysia facts or weird things in Malaysia which many Malaysians still couldn’t comprehend. Do you know that the outbreak of mass hysteria or epidermic hysteria only or rather mostly happens to perempuan Melayu (Malay girls) in Malaysia?
Although this freaky phenomena has happened to other people in other parts of the world, but here in Malaysia, it affects predominately the female Malay community; among Malay lower seconday school girls in schools or those staying in hostels and also Malay factory girls.
Talking about mass or epidermic hysteria in Malaysian secondary schools, my sister who once witnessed this weird and unexplainable occurrence when she was studying in Sekolah Menengah Sri Muar, back in the early 80s.
She told me it only affected the Malay girls, and not a single Chinese or Indian school girl. What happened was, all of a sudden, for no obvious reason, one girl started crying hysterically and then staggered and went down on the ground.
It was as if her legs went jelly and she just fell to the ground in convulsion and continued crying and screaming. And automatically this triggered other Malay school girls to act the same weird manner. This caused a chain reaction. Some of the affected girls even fainted.
Some say that this strange and sudden outbreak of mass hysteria is because the school compound or the factory area is kotor (dirty in the sense it is haunted ). What they actually mean is there are jins (spirits) living around those places. And these girls happen to kacau (disturb) the spirits.
This is one of those weird things which we often hear or read about, but still couldn’t fathom. The big question is why it strikes only the gadis Melayu (Malay girls) in Malaysia?
