Over quarter-million ringgit collected at HKR

Harakahdaily, 14 January 2013

Jan 14: More than RM280,000 was collected by organisers of the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat, according to rally chairman Mohamad Sabu.

The request was made to the crowd gathered in Stadium Merdeka last Saturday, when more than 100,000 people overfilled the historic venue with tens of thousands spilled over to nearby roads, in order to pay RM100,000 bill for use of the venue.

“In such a short time, participants had been so generous to pay out of their pockets,” said Mat Sabu, who is also PAS deputy president, expressing gratitude for the display of generosity.

“They were not only willing to travel across the country, to sit under the hot sun, to sleep over in mosques and to rest along alleys, but they were also willing to contribute financially,” he added.

Mat Sabu denied the allegation that rally participants had been paid RM150 each to attend the rally.

“In fact, we asked them for money,” he quipped.

Dr M: KL rally bid to topple BN government

January 14, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had hoped for an Arab-style revolution to overthrow the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) at the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising) rally in the city last Saturday, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today, revving up his allegations against the opposition pact ahead of Election 2013.

Last year, the 87-year-old claimed in his blog posts and in speeches that the slew of public rallies, all backed by PR, were attempts to further destabilise and cause disarray in the country should they lose the polls.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 14, 2013): The police are investigating the case of some participants of last Saturday’s public rally at the Merdeka Stadium bringing along young children to the rally.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said their action contravened the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and action would be taken against them after the investigation papers had been submitted to the Attorney-General.

“I wish to remind that although some amendments had been made to legal provisions, implementation of the law must be respected by all,” he said after attending the opening of the “Transformation of Security and Fundamental Rights Legislation, Rights and Responsibilities: Between Hope and Challenges” conference, here, today.

Despite repeated warnings and threats by the authorities, some 100,000 people defied orders not to participate in processions towards Stadium Merdeka for an opposition rally.

Many protesters interviewed said that their act of civil disobedience was necessary because they had to exercise their constitutional right to peaceful assembly and show Malaysians that they have to overcome the culture of fear instilled by the authorities.

NONEChew Lai Ching, a 35-year-old mother, decided to ignore police instructions not to bring children to the rally.

Instead, her whole family came along, including a three-year-old and a six-month-old, all dressed in green which has become symbolic with Malaysia’s rapidly growing environmental movement.

“I need to let my children know that we are fighting for them and for their future,” she told Malaysiakini when met during the march.

English and Malay dailies spin sour on the rally
4:05PM Jan 13, 2013

The Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat yesterday, dubbed ‘KL112′, which drew more than 100,000 people to Stadium Merdeka and its vicinity, was the largest opposition-organised gathering in recent history.
…..

Notable in this morning’s mainstream media coverage of the mammoth event was an overall negative spin from pro-government English and Malay dailies’ headlines, while the Chinese dailies broke ranks by giving it a generally good report.

Think tank estimates 150k at People’s Uprising Rally

6:11PM Jan 13, 2013

The crowd at the People’s Uprising Rally yesterday could have reached up to 150,000 people at its peak, according to preliminary estimates by the think-tank Politweet.

Based on photos shared on social media, the group said today that the crowd occupied an area of 424,149.14 square feet, not including the stadium’s seats.

“Crowd density varies, but if you take an average of 3.5 to 4 square feet per person, the total is between 106,037 to 121,185 people outside the stadium.

NONE“Including the 30,000 reported capacity of the stadium, the estimated size of the crowd is between 136,037 to 151,185 people,” said Politweet in its Facebook posting today.

Malaysiakini has estimated that some 100,000 people attended the mammoth rally.

Politweet is a research firm that analyses Twitter usage. Among other important findings, Politweet detected an effort to cheat in an attempt to set a tweeting record during the last Merdeka Day celebration.

From the hundreds of buses chartered to ferry people to Bukit Jalil to the free LRT tickets to attendees, the government appeared to have spared no expense in ensuring a full turnout at the event.

These include lavish lucky draw prizes ranging from the latest Proton Preve to rather un-Malaysian products such as a Chevrolet Cruze, a Vespa scooter, 50 Huawei tablet computers, 10 fixie bicycles and three Blackberry smartphones.

**Meanwhile yesterday, an estimated 100,000 people traversed the streets of KL from late morning and gathered at the iconic Stadium Merdeka for the rally, led by Pakatan Rakyat and various NGOs.

KL rally makes GE13 a keener battle, say analysts

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — Kuala Lumpur’s mammoth rally yesterday has revived Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) push to capture Putrajaya from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) which has used a combination of policy and handouts to claw back support, say political analysts.

The analysts told The Malaysian Insider that PR’s ability to organise up to 100,000 for the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat gathering and the crowd’s interest in the issues being discussed will make the general election a close battle for both coalitions. PR have estimated that close to 500,000 turned up for the rally at the iconic Stadium Merdeka but police said the crowd was, at the most, 45,000.

“Regardless of the actual crowd numbers, aerial photographs emerging from the event show a very large crowd, which reflects on the opposition and civil society’s ability to mobilise the public,” Merdeka Center’s Ibrahim Suffian noted.

“But apart from showcasing the capability of organisers, it also shows the enthusiasm and energy of the forces opposing the government, underlining the fact that the coming polls contest will no doubt be the toughest that the ruling coalition will face in its history,” he added.

Centre for Policy Initiatives director Dr Lim Teck Ghee said the rally was a “clear-cut victory” for both the opposition and civil society, citing the massive turnout, the disciplined behaviour of participants and the “formidable” consensus shown by all parties in opposing Barisan Nasional’s (BN) rule.

“All these indicators will strike dismay in BN,” he said.

But Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) political analyst Professor Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff expressed a slightly different view.

“When such a big rally is not disturbed and goes on so peacefully, why then did it not attract the one-million supporters as promised by Pakatan?” he asked.

The Perhimpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat came and went without incident. Police kept a low profile while ensuring the safety of the thousands of participants making their way to Stadium Merdeka. There were only three infringements of the conditions laid down for the rally: some brought along young children, others carried provocative banners, and the 30,000 limit allowed to enter the venue of the gathering was not observed.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat rally went on smoothly and peacefully with police maintaining a minimal but effective presence to ensure safety and order.

Police set up 40 beat points within a 1km radius of Stadium Merdeka to facilitate movement of people and vehicles to minimise traffic congestion.

People gathered at various meeting points here as early as 7am for the event. The crowd, dressed in green, yellow and red, arrived at the stadium at 11.15am while groups from Padang Timur, in Petaling Jaya and University Malaya started their walk to the venue at 11am.

ACP Zainuddin said there was neither any untoward incident nor arrest made during the rally, which started with participants walking to the stadium yesterday morning.

Most participants went to designated “check points” before marching to the stadium.

“Police conducted their duties thoroughly to ensure the rally went on smoothly.

“However, there were two cases where two elderly men fainted because the stadium was packed,” ACP Zainuddin said at the police Field Media Centre here.

“We achieved our goal of having zero casualty, Again, it was in the spirit of the Peaceful Assembly Act.”

HOW LARGE WAS THE CROWD?

Malaysia Chronicle

The police have reduced their earlier estimate of the crowd size at this afternoon’s Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat rally from 80,000 to 45,000 people, both inside and outside Stadium Merdeka in the capital city.

Dang Wangi district police chief Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad told a press conference after the rally that there were an estimated 10,000 rally-goers loitering outside the venue during the event, while the remaining were packed into the stadium.

“We estimate that there were about 40,000 people… between 40,000 and 45,000,” he said.

Stadium Merdeka is said to have enough sitting and standing room for some 40,000 people.

Earlier this afternoon, the police had announced on their official Twitter page that the stadium was packed with over 80,000 supporters.

Shortly after that, @PDRMsia removed the tweet, calling it a “technical error” and that the official tally would be announced later by the district police chief.

ACP Zainuddin also announced that the police have opened investigations against rally organisers for violating three conditions during the event, including allowing children to participate, using banners that incite hostility and for exceeding the earlier estimated 30,000 crowd target.

HKR#KL112 RALLY: Crowd size exceeds Bersih 3.0, it may be too late for Umno-BN!

Written by  Wong Choon Mei, Nawawi Mohamad, Alaa Soleiman

Stadium Merdeka is not historic’ without reason. It is rather shabby but despite its obvious wear-and-tear it is clean. Somehow, no other place seems capable of being able to encapsulate the feeling of overbrimming good cheer all around the vicinity of this venue today. And despite the care taken by authorities to let slip the information the stadium has a capacity of only 30,000, it can actually accomodate between 80,000 to 100,000. It is understandable that Prime Minister Najib razak and his Umno party would want to play down the number, but those who came will know and distrust the BN government and their media even more.

Today, between 300,000 to 500,000 Malaysians from all walks of life – young and old, men and women, boys and girls – wanted to ‘enjoy’ themselves. They wanted to show they have a stake in this country – in this globe. They wanted to show they are aware of the issues at stake in Malaysia. They wanted their government – whether it is the incumbent BN government or the PR government-in-waiting – to hear them and do something about their demands and grouses.

And today, they hit bulls-eye with the sheer strength of their presence. If Najib and the Umno-BN coalition choose to make light of it, they have only themselves to blame if they are shown the door in the coming general election.
……….

3.00pm to 5.00pm  Crowd size exceeds Bersih 3.0’s 250,000

By now it is clear, the crowd size has exceeded the BERSIH 3.0’s 250,000. In the stadium, its vicinity and throughout the 8 meeting points, seasoned media people and camera crew plus the activists themselves estimate a crowd size of nearly 500,000!

Organisers of HKR#KL112 rally: Total crowd size was 500,000

Written by  Maria Begum, Malaysia Chronicle

Organisers of the mammoth #KL112 rally held in Malaysia’s historic Stadium Merdeka have estimated a crowd attendance of at least 500,000 – less than their one million target but more than enough to send a shiver through Prime Minister Najib Razak’s government.
………

Police fudging the numbers?

The official figure released by the HKR#KL112 committee makes Saturday’s rally the largest ever in Malaysia, topping last year’s BERSIH 3.0 which drew more than 250,000. Those present at the Stadium are not surprised at the number.

However, what was shocking were the estimates furnished by the police and used by the government-controlled media. These ranged from a paltry 50,000 to 100,000 and can easily debunked as within the stadium itself and its immediate compound, there would have been at least 150,000. Including the crowds that met at the 8 designated meeting points and along the way to the Stadium, there were tens of thousands more.

G Vinod | January 12, 2013

Ensuring free and fair elections tops the list.

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition coalition, Pakatan Rakyat, made up of PAS, PKR and DAP, has made a 10-point demand to the government and topping the list is for the government to ensure free and fair elections.

Pakatan made its demands known at the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat, attended by some 100,000 opposition supporters, at the historic Stadium Merdeka here today.

The list of demands was announced by PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution at the rally.

“If we come to power we would change the course of the government, away from corruption and race-based policies and politics. No Malaysian would be pushed aside. We will also move in tandem with each other for a better life,” he said when presenting the demands.

“We need help. Help us as observers. In the 13th general election, all must come out to vote. You must,” she thundered to the standing crowd that filled the entire stadium from the open field to the bleachers.

“Ini kalilah. This is it. Repeat after me. This is it. We love Malaysia. This is for Malaysia. And we have hope because of you.

“You, the rakyat, will make the difference. You can help us clean the election. You will rise to the occasion, you will take part in democracy. This is it,” Ambiga said, leading the crowd

Fear of agent provocateurs

Leven Woon | January 12, 2013

Police trucks were seen dropping off plainclothes policemen around the city, alleges a PKR leader.

KUALA LUMPUR: Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) fears that agent provocateurs have been planted by the police to instigate trouble at the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat Rally, scheduled for 2pm at Stadium Merdeka today.

SAMM chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin alleged that early this morning, police trucks were spotted dropping off individuals “who we think are policemen in plainclothes.”

“We fear these people will become agent provocateurs and cause trouble. Then the police will blame us for starting trouble,” he told reporters at the Kampung Baru mosque, where a group of opposition supporters had gathered before marching to Stadium Merdeka.

Crowd beginning to build up in KL ahead of rally
10:08AM Jan 12, 2013

Downtown Kuala Lumpur is expected to be swamped with thousands of Pakatan Rakyat supporters as part of the coalition’s final show of force ahead of a crucial general election.

Organisers are hoping that big turnout at the rally – dubbed the People’s Uprising Rally – would sway fence-sitters who are likely to vote based on who will likely to form the next federal government.

NONEThe Najib government however appeared to be bending over backwards to ensure that there are no untoward incidents, even if the rally theme itself is brazenly revolutionary.

Not only have the authorities allowed Pakatan to rally at the historic and highly symbolic Stadium Merdeka, the police have stated that its target was for “zero casualty” and have pledge to do without the notorious Federal Reserve Unit (riot police).

Rally organisers are putting the authorities’ new attitude to the test, with plans to hold multiple street processions ahead of the three-hour rally, which is scheduled to begin at 2pm.

• Maklumkan kepada seseorang yang terdekat yang anda akan menyertai Himpunan #KL112 – ahli keluarga atau rakan-rakan.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jika Stadium Merdeka penuh (Kapasiti Stadium hanya muat 30,000 orang sahaja), anda boleh memenuhi sepanjang jalan ke stadium.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Gunakan pengangkutan awam seperti bas, keretapi, LRT, monorel kerana kemungkinan jalan ke kawasan perhimpunan #KL112 telah ditutup. Jika anda memandu, anda mungkin perlu untuk berjalan 2 kilometer atau lebih (lebih menyusahkan anda sahaja).<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Berpakat dengan kawan-kawan ke himpunan #KL112 dengan menaiki bas, keretapi, LRT, monorel: kerja berpasukan mungkin diperlukan untuk sebarang bantuan dan tips.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Pergi dalam satu kumpulan. Tentukan titik pertemuan yang dikenali jika anda sesat. Talian telefon mudah alih mungkin akan tergendala. Yang terbaik adalah untuk kekal berkumpulan.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Ikut arahan; mengenalpasti ketua anda, seperti Unit Amal PAS yang baju lengan panjang merah.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jangan berlari.
Sila jauhkan diri.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Anggarkan jarak yang baik antara diri anda dan gas pemedih mata FRU.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Trak FRU akan bergerak perlahan-lahan supaya anda mempunyai masa untuk mengelakkan diri dari meriam air. Sesetengah orang hanya suka disembur tetapi saya cuba menjauhkan diri.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>APA YANG ANDA TIDAK PERLU LAKUKAN<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Peguam sudah bersedia di balai polis untuk membantu anda.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Anda boleh dipukul semasa proses tersebut. Yang terbaik ELAKKAN diri anda ditangkap.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jangan membuang sampah merata-rata.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

• Maklumkan kepada seseorang yang terdekat yang anda akan menyertai Himpunan #KL112 – ahli keluarga atau rakan-rakan.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jika Stadium Merdeka penuh (Kapasiti Stadium hanya muat 30,000 orang sahaja), anda boleh memenuhi sepanjang jalan ke stadium.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Gunakan pengangkutan awam seperti bas, keretapi, LRT, monorel kerana kemungkinan jalan ke kawasan perhimpunan #KL112 telah ditutup. Jika anda memandu, anda mungkin perlu untuk berjalan 2 kilometer atau lebih (lebih menyusahkan anda sahaja).<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Berpakat dengan kawan-kawan ke himpunan #KL112 dengan menaiki bas, keretapi, LRT, monorel: kerja berpasukan mungkin diperlukan untuk sebarang bantuan dan tips.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Pergi dalam satu kumpulan. Tentukan titik pertemuan yang dikenali jika anda sesat. Talian telefon mudah alih mungkin akan tergendala. Yang terbaik adalah untuk kekal berkumpulan.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Ikut arahan; mengenalpasti ketua anda, seperti Unit Amal PAS yang baju lengan panjang merah.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jangan berlari.
Sila jauhkan diri.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Anggarkan jarak yang baik antara diri anda dan gas pemedih mata FRU.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Trak FRU akan bergerak perlahan-lahan supaya anda mempunyai masa untuk mengelakkan diri dari meriam air. Sesetengah orang hanya suka disembur tetapi saya cuba menjauhkan diri.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>APA YANG ANDA TIDAK PERLU LAKUKAN<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Peguam sudah bersedia di balai polis untuk membantu anda.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Anda boleh dipukul semasa proses tersebut. Yang terbaik ELAKKAN diri anda ditangkap.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jangan membuang sampah merata-rata.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

• Maklumkan kepada seseorang yang terdekat yang anda akan menyertai Himpunan #KL112 – ahli keluarga atau rakan-rakan.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jika Stadium Merdeka penuh (Kapasiti Stadium hanya muat 30,000 orang sahaja), anda boleh memenuhi sepanjang jalan ke stadium.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Gunakan pengangkutan awam seperti bas, keretapi, LRT, monorel kerana kemungkinan jalan ke kawasan perhimpunan #KL112 telah ditutup. Jika anda memandu, anda mungkin perlu untuk berjalan 2 kilometer atau lebih (lebih menyusahkan anda sahaja).<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Berpakat dengan kawan-kawan ke himpunan #KL112 dengan menaiki bas, keretapi, LRT, monorel: kerja berpasukan mungkin diperlukan untuk sebarang bantuan dan tips.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Pergi dalam satu kumpulan. Tentukan titik pertemuan yang dikenali jika anda sesat. Talian telefon mudah alih mungkin akan tergendala. Yang terbaik adalah untuk kekal berkumpulan.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Ikut arahan; mengenalpasti ketua anda, seperti Unit Amal PAS yang baju lengan panjang merah.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jangan berlari.
Sila jauhkan diri.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Anggarkan jarak yang baik antara diri anda dan gas pemedih mata FRU.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Trak FRU akan bergerak perlahan-lahan supaya anda mempunyai masa untuk mengelakkan diri dari meriam air. Sesetengah orang hanya suka disembur tetapi saya cuba menjauhkan diri.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>APA YANG ANDA TIDAK PERLU LAKUKAN<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Peguam sudah bersedia di balai polis untuk membantu anda.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Anda boleh dipukul semasa proses tersebut. Yang terbaik ELAKKAN diri anda ditangkap.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
• Jangan membuang sampah merata-rata.</p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

Keep it Peaceful

Committed to ensuring a peaceful rally at Stadium Merdeka today, police will not deploy FRU personnel or set up any roadblock in the city. For their part, organisers of Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat promised to help maintain order while adhering to the conditions laid down for the gathering.

Organisers agree to 27 police conditions

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat have pledged to ensure that their rally at Stadium Merdeka will be a peaceful one.

Checking it out: Secretariat members of Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat inspecting Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur before the rally planned for today. Not only have they agreed to adhere to the 27 conditions set by the police, they said they would deploy about 10,000 people to secure the safety of the participants as they make their way to the stadium.

The organisers agreed with Dang Wangi police chief Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad that the participants would not be provocative or stir up trouble, not bring weapons or dangerous items, not take along children below 15 and not damage public property.

Other conditions include requirements that placards and banners must not carry messages that are hateful or seditious.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu said: “We have agreed with the police on the conditions in a meeting on Thursday, and I signed it (the agreement).

Mat Sabu, who is the rally chairman, added yesterday that PAS Unit Amal, Angkatan Muda Keadilan and DAP Socialist Youth would help the police ensure the safety of the participants going to the stadium.

‘Himpunan Rakyat bersama PM’ SMSes flood Klang Valley

Less than 24 hours before Pakatan Rakyat’s mega Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally) is scheduled to start tomorrow, Klang Valley residents began receiving SMS invitations to a rival ‘Himpunan Rakyat’.

“Himpunan Rakyat with the prime minister on Jan 12 (Saturday) at Tesco Square Bandar Rinching (in) Semenyih, 9am. Join the festivities,” reads the SMS in Bahasa Malaysia, a forwarded copy of which was obtained by Malaysiakini.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is expected to attend a gathering by the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) at Dataran Tesco.

The SMS also included the ubiquitous signature “Sayangi Selangor Yakini BN (Love Selangor Believe in BN)”, marking its point of origin as Selangor BN.

The matter was first spotted on social networking sites in messages posted by Klang Valley netizens, many of whom complained the messages came to their phones un-looked for.

Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat’s organiser had earlier announced that the iconic square would be one of the eight procession meeting points and it would be led by anti-Lynas group, Himpunan Hijau chairman Wong Tack.

Dataran closed ahead of rally, no FRU deployment

DBKL has cordoned off the iconic square – one of the eight procession meeting points for the rally – until at least Sunday for ‘renovation works’.

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have beefed up security in the capital and barricaded Dataran Merdeka ahead of tomorrow’s Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat rally at Stadium Merdeka.

A check by FMT this afternoon found that Dataran and nearby Jalan Raja have been declared off-limits. The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had also erected a signboard which read “the place is closed for all activities”.

Another banner stated that upgrading works were taking place at the iconic square.

FMT learnt that this was done at midnight and the area would be cordoned off until Sunday.

Tourists were also barred from entering the square, while traffic from Jalan Kinabalu was reduced to a crawl due to the sudden road closure.

Meanwhile, the police have deployed a mobile truck near the Sultan Abdul Samad building. A canopy was erected to serve as the police’s press conference spot tomorrow.

Rally at Stadium Merdeka stays put, says Pakatan

Despite Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohmad Salleh’s suggestion for organisers of tomorrow’s People’s Uprising Rally to change the venue to Bukit Jalil, Pakatan Rakyat is determined to keep to its plan to gather at Stadium Merdeka.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu said that as Pakatan has already made preparations for Stadium Merdeka, to change venue at the last minute would be impossible.

“This is the final day before the rally. The sound system has already been prepared.” he told reporters at PAS’ headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that the historic stadium at the heart of the city is a convenient location due to public transportation access, that would be the mode of travel for most participants

Rally will be peaceful despite possible showdown

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid
January 11, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu gave his assurance that tomorrow’s Himpunanan Kebangkitan Rakyat mega-rally will be peaceful despite a possible confrontation with the authorities after the latter wanted the venue for the gathering changed.

Mohamad had insisted last night that the Pakatan Rakyat-backed rally would be held at the historic Stadium Merdeka, in defiance of the last-minute police suggestion that the gathering be held at the Bukit Jalil Nasional Stadium situated on the outskirts of the capital.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh yesterday said PR’s choice of venue will not hold the one million turnout targeted by the organisers, saying the Bukit Jalil stadium, which has a capacity of 100,000, was a better option.

Varsities discourage students from tomorrow’s rally

12:44PM Jan 11, 2013

Several public universities have issued public notices discouraging their students from participating in tomorrow’s People’s Uprising Rally in Kuala Lumpur.

Today Universiti Malaya’s student affairs department posted a notice on their official Facebook saying, “Students are not encouraged to participate in the (People’s Uprising Rally 112).

“It is reminded that this is the semester’s final examinations period, and students need to prioritise this for the sake of their future.

“The excellence, welfare and safety of our students is the university’s priority,” read the posting.

Meanwhile yesterday Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) posted a notice on their official website telling students to “avoid the rally”.

“The student affairs department and alumni (JHEPA) advises all UPSI undergraduates to avoid involvement in the People’s Uprising Rally …. in any of the locations announced by the organisers,” read the terse notice.

Cops: Use Bukit Jalil stadium instead
6:45PM Jan 10, 2013

The police has urged organisers of the People’s Uprising Rally this Saturday to hold the event at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil which has a bigger capacity.

In a press release this evening, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohmad Salleh said Stadium Merdeka, which organisers seek to use, will not cope with a one million turnout targetted by the organisers.

Mohmad said Stadium Merdeka has a capacity of 30,000 and noted that the venue management has set a condition that the organisers must not exceed the capacity.

“In view of the organiser’s goal of gathering one million participants, it is logical to hold the the rally at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil.

“(The venue) is more suitable and comfortable because it has a bigger capacity and is accessible by public transport, including LRT, and fulfils security needs,” he said.

However, Mahmod did not mention the actual seating capacity of Bukit Jalil, which is 100,000.

Police relax rule, allow banners at Saturday rally

Dang Wangi police has relented to the request by the organisers of Saturday rally’s to allow participants to carry banners and placards on that day.

This is, however, providing rally participants do not hurl insults at each other, preach sedition or cause disruption, says the Dang Wangi OCPD Zainuddin Ahmad following a meeting between the latter and rally organisers earlier today.

In the meeting, police accepted the notification by organisers of Pakatan’s Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally) and agreed to facilitate the gathering as provided under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (PAA).

Both sides agreed to abide by the 27 conditions for gatherings provided under the Act, with one change in regards to the condition banning banners, placards and other collaterals depicting slogans and logos from such gatherings.

Jan 12 rally activists receive ‘threatening SMS’

Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM), a NGO supporting the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally), has claimed to have received a threatening text-message ahead of Saturday’s rally.

It implicates “80 NGOs” including Pekida and Perkasa, as well as Umno Youth, but their representatives could not be immediately reached for comment.

The message, sent two days ago, reads: ‘We will disrupt the illegal assembly…we will wait at the Dataran Merdeka the night before. Do not become national traitor. Do not become Chinese (and) Anwar’s tool.’

Federal Territories SAMM coordinator Shariful Azmir Mustafa warned those involved “not to try and stop democratic processes and freedom of speech”.

“However, we will await until tomorrow noon as the deadline. If there is no development, we will make an announcement at 4pm tomorrow on where the gathering will be held,” he said.

Pakatan: IGP gave us promise to facilitate Jan 12 rally

Pakatan Rakyat said today it has received a guarantee from inspector-general of police Ismail Omar that the cops will merely take on a facilitatory role during its planned Jan 12 rally at Stadium Merdeka.

“The IGP said he wants this rally to be a historic moment where the police can learn from its past weaknesses.

“They (police) will strive to give their best service to ensure the rights of everyone according to law are respected,” said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution after meeting the IGP this afternoon.

He added that the police had also informed that they will provide marshals who will guide media practitioners during the rally, based on provisions in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu had at 2.30pm today led a delegation of 11 people, including Saifuddin, to meet Ismail at his office in Bukit Aman in the run-up to the rally.

This new measure suggests that the police are not ruling out the option of cracking down on the rally – dubbed the People’s Uprising Rally – should protesters pour into the streets of Kuala Lumpur. The organisers have failed to obtain a response to their application to gather at the historic Stadium Merdeka.

Cops to issue special press tags for Saturday rally

The police have urged journalists covering the opposition Pakatan Rakyat rally this Saturday to wear a special police-issued tag so they can be easily identified.

This unprecedented move appears to be an attempt to avoid a repeat of beatings meted out by police personnel on journalists during the Bersih 3.0 rally last year.

Yesterday, several Malaysiakini journalists received telephone calls from the Kuala Lumpur police contingent requesting a list of those assigned to cover the rally.

The list, to be submitted by tomorrow, is to include personal details such as telephone and MyKad numbers.

When contacted, ACP Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, assistant to the chief of the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat (Public Relations), said the move is meant to ensure the safety of journalists.

“We don’t want any untoward incident, like the last time,” he said, in reference to Bersih 3.0.

Why we should all be at the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat rally on 12th January, 2013

In my “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable” post, I had said that I would share with you my thoughts on why I feel we should all be at the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat on 12th January.
………………

It is not about rallying to ask UMNO / BN for the BERSIH demands, to shut down Lynas, or for anything else.

Other than to convey two stern messages to UMNO /BN.

First, we will show zero tolerance towards any form of cheating on polling day during the 13th GE.

Second, we expect UMNO / BN to peacably surrender power when we beat them at the polls during the 13th GE

In that sense, this rally is, for me, at least, an Anything But UMNO / BN rally.

This takes me, then, to my reasons why I think every able bodied Malaysian should make the effort to be at the rally this Saturday.

I have two.

Find out what these two reasons are: click on the link below.

Stadium Merdeka management snubs Pakatan

With the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally) drawing closer, its organiser Pakatan Rakyat has yet to secure Stadium Merdeka as the venue – today, it was snubbed by the management of the premises.

PAS Youth secretary Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil (left), who led a delegation to the management’s office in Kuala Lumpur, said Pakatan has been trying to secure the use of the historic venue since two weeks ago, but to no avail.

He said the secretariat had sent a letter to the Merdeka Heritage Trust on Dec 26 last year, requesting the use of the stadium. This was in addition to phone calls to the office.

As there was no response, the Pakatan delegation turned up this afternoon at the doorstep of the management’s headquarters in Menara PNB, Kuala Lumpur.

However, security personnel barred the representatives from meeting the management, explaining that they were “in a meeting”.

Frustrated by more than an hour of waiting, PKR Youth secretary Julailey Jemadi told reporters that he is disappointed with the management.

Rais: Choosing mega-rally venue unilaterally shows Pakatan ‘arrogance’

By Ida Lim
January 06, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 ― Naming Stadium Merdeka for the January 12 mega-rally without discussing with the police and stadium authorities reflects Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) “arrogance”, said Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

Organisers of the “Hari Kebangkitan Rakyat” rally hope to draw a million-strong crowd to the historic stadium to protest several issues but have yet to get any approvals, setting the stage for a showdown with the authorities.

“Parties, whether it’s PAS, opposition parties or any non-governmental bodies, cannot force (their) choice of venue where they want to demonstrate,” Rais said, adding this was according to the spirit of the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA).

He said the federal opposition should have negotiated with the police before determining a rally venue.

“This shows arrogance and goes against the laws of the country,” he said in a press conference here.

Pakatan Youth’s nationwide ‘Road to KL’ curtain raiser

Pakatan Rakyat Youth will launch a nationwide Road to KL programme beginning Tuesday as a run-up to the mammoth Jan 12 gathering at the iconic and historic Merdeka Stadium.

The programme will kick-off from the south, north, east coast and central area as a run-up to next Saturday’s main event.

PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (right) also told Malaysiakini that it had also set- up a team comprising the secretaries-general of PAS, PKR and DAP to meet with the Stadium Merdeka management on Monday to speed up approval of Pakatan’s application to use the stadium that day.

“This is in line with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s call for public gatherings to be held in stadiums and we want to ensure that the stadium issues the approval and that this is done transparently without any problems,” he said.

“We hope the stadium corporation will give its approval, as Pakatan has already submitted its application some time ago,” he sai

Watch out for scams of 2013

Selena Tay | January 2, 2013

We the ordinary citizens are scammed 24/7. We are surrounded by cronies and scammed by cronies.

COMMENT

We are going to start the year being scammed with a recycled scam! This scam, which is in fact a con-trick, was used before the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9, 2011.

In this trick, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had made a statement that prior to the rally, the Bersih organisers can make use of a stadium. But when the Bersih organisers voiced out that they want to use Stadium Merdeka, it was turned down.

Now that Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (HKR) will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 12, Stadium Merdeka will again be in the limelight.

Mohamad Sabu, the PAS deputy president, had announced that the application to use Stadium Merdeka was made last year. As at the time of writing, the permit to use the stadium has yet to be issued. Looks like the same thing is going to happen as in the second Bersih Rally and so a repeat of this con-trick will be labelled as Stadium Trick 2.0.

Pakatan wants PM to ‘tepati janji’ over Jan 12 gathering

Opposition pact Pakatan Rakyat wants Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to hold true to his promise to allow mass gatherings at Stadium Merdeka and green-light their Jan 12 Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally).

“We are confident that the PM will ‘tepati janji’ (keep his word),” said PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu who heads the rally’s organising committee, making a pun of BN’s ‘Janji Ditepati’ (Promises Delivered) slogan.

He said this when asked what will Pakatan do if their application to hold their rally at the iconic stadium is rejected.

The PM made the promise prior to the massive Bersih 3.0 rally last year.

The premier has asked the Bersih steering committee to reconsider their street rally and hold it at stadiums like Stadium Merdeka instead.

December 27, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 ― The Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally) mass event next January 12 will go on at Stadium Merdeka even without the authorities’ permit to use the iconic venue, The Malaysian Insider understands.According to social activist Hishammuddin Rais, event organisers are still waiting for a response from the KL City Hall on their application for Stadium Merdeka, which was sent some time last week.

But he noted that even without permit, rally-goers could gather peacefully in the areas surrounding the stadium.

“I am just paraphrasing Md Sabu… if there is no stadium permit, we gather around it,” he said, referring to PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who is chairman of the event.

“I don’t think there will be any chaos, unless the cops are going to come running again. But I think the time is not conducive for this… but we shall cross the river when we get there,” Hishammuddin told The Malaysian Insider.

Should the event proceed without permission, the streets of the capital will again become the focus of international attention as major civil society movements nationwide, along with PR parties and other anti-government proponents, gather to demand a string of key issues ahead of national polls.
